Jack is such a big boy! We had his 4 month visit to the pediatrition on Monday. He is doing great except for the sleeping.He is rolling over, and he can sit up for a couple of seconds without assist. He is still getting up two to three times a night. He was 18 pounds (93%) , 24.5 inches tall ( 50%), and his head was 17 inches(75%). We started him on cereal Tuesday, and he loved it. He doesn't spit any of it out. He got some banana and sweet potatoes also. He is a big flirt when we are out and about. He loves his sister! He watches everything she does. She has started to be a very sweet big sis. She has started talking more to him and giving him lots of kisses. He has a great smile which I adore. If we talk to him he will talk and talk back to you. We also went to the cardiologist on Monday and all is well. We were discharged from their service!!!!

Oxford

we are officially moving to Oxford! We will be moving sometime in May. We found a house on South 10th street that we love. We are going to be renovating and adding on to the house.We will have plenty of room for people to come visit! We are about six or seven blocks from the square. Guy is really excited about his new job. We are really excited about moving back to Mississippi!

Jack's echo

Jack had an echo of his heart yesterday and all is well! His coronary arteries look great! We have one more echo in February. If his echo looks good we will be discharged from pediatric cardiology. Needless to say Guy and I are beyond relieved.

The Hospital

We went to Oxford two weeks ago Sunday and Jack had a very stuffy nose. He was really fussy and congested. Tuesday he got this horrible rash from head to toe. His eyes were blood shot and his lips were cracked(everytime he cried they would start bleeding). You couldn't see a white spot anywhere on his body. We went to see a pediatrition on Tuesday in Oxford and he said it was just a virus. As the week went on he just didn't get better. Thursday night he got a fever of 103 that would not come down with Tylenol. I called our pediatrition here in VA and they said go to the ER. He got a chest x ray and they tried to get blood five times but couldn't get enough. The doctor said it was just a virus and keep an eye on his fever. The entire week he was either awake and screaming or sound asleep. We were on our way to the airport Sunday to go back to Va and I noticed his fingers were swollen and red. I showed Guy but he didn't think it was that big of a deal. His fever would not stop despite lots of tylenol. We went to the pediatrition Monday and they saud just keep and eye on him. We went back to the pediatrition Tuesday and he had blood work, a chest x ray, and a catheter to check his urine. By the way my poor husband had to put his catheter in because the nurse couldn't do it. Wednesday his fever was still 101.7 at lunch when the pediatrition called and we were sent to the hospital. He had a spinal tap, blood cultures, blood drawn, and an Iv started for antibiotics. Thursday we just kind of waited around to see if the fever would come down....and it didn't. His blood came back and it was elevated..not good. Friday we had an infectious disease doctor come and check him out. he also had more blood drawn that showed he had a big inflammatory process going on. Saturday the infectious disease doctor along with the pediatric cardiologist said they thought he had Kawasakis disease. He had to get more blood drawn and a new IV put in. Saturday night he got a medicine called IVIG through his IV over 18 hours which worked!! His fever finally broke at 7pm Saturday night. He also got Aspirin every six hours to protect his heart. This is the only childhood illness you can give aspirin. Sunday he was feeling much better. He had an echo of his heart and all was good. They let him go home Monday morning. We are very happy to be home. Thanks so much for the phone calls, help with Abby, thoughts, and prayers. We will be followed by the pediatric cardiologist for several months to make sure his heart looks ok.

we took jack to the doctor for his 2wk check(more like 3wk) on thursday. everything looked great! He has gained 2 lbs in two weeks....he loves to eat. He also gained 1/2 an inch in height. He is still such a sweet baby.

Poor Abby is still sick!!!!!! She had a 102.3 fever saturday after motrin and tylenol....so we called the on call doc. He put her on antibiotics (the first time she has been on antibiotics in her little life). She has looks better today. I just feel bad for her. She has been sick for a long long time. She needs a break! Even while feeling sick she has to have her princess crown on.

Pumpkin Patch

We went to a pumpkin patch on friday morning and had a blast. jack was as quiet as a mouse the entire time we were there. Abby had so much fun. It was great for Abby to have some time with both parents without jack needing something. There was so much for her to do she was running back and forth we could barely keep up.

Almost a week

So it has almost been a week and we are all doing great.

Poor Abby has a really bad cold, but she is hanging in there. She is doing ok with everything. She has been getting more frustrated with things than normal and has been having more tantrums than usual. She has been so sweet to Jack, and does not like it when he cries. She will get very mad at us for giving him a bath or changing a diaper because he cries so loud. She says guy's stop doing that to jack he is so sad. It really is sweet.

Guy has been able to stay home last week and most of this week. I am so happy he is here with me. I can't tell you how much help he has been. He does everything ....without me having to ask! He has taken care of everything for Abby from A-Z. He has taken care of the meals, laundry, cleaning, and anything else that needs done around the house. He has been such a sweet husband.

Jack has been such a sweet baby! He has not been fussy at all. He is breastfeeding really well, and in return we have gotten some nasty diapers. I forgot how bad the diapers can be. I was really scared to take care of his circumcision. I know it sounds stupid, but it looked like it was so painful, and guy does this for a living so i thought he should take care of it. I have only gotten sprayed with tinkle two times which i think is pretty good since i have had a little girl. He has been sleeping at night 2.5 to 3 hours increments and then he is up feeding for 30 minutes then he is fast asleep. He has been in our bed for the last week not something i am proud of, but after i had the blood patch it was really hard to move around so it was easier. The blood patch was to seal up the hole where the epidural was supposed to go but went into the spinal space instead. I am putting him in his crib as much as i can during the day. I am taking abby to school this morning, and i am a little nervous getting both of them in the car and then into school. I can't pick anything up heavier than jack for a week because of the blood patch. Jack had his first doctors appt yesterday and was very very mad. He has already gained back half the weight he lost. The doctor said since his weight gain was so good i could let him sleep as long as he wants. Now that he said that Jack will be up every two hours to eat. Lets just say my little man likes to eat and eat and eat.

Jack Hamilton Shoaf was born Wednesday, October 9th at 9:20 pm. He weighed 7lbs 11 oz and was 21 inches long. We arrived at the hospital at 6:30 in the morning, so Barrie was wiped out by the time he came along. We were lucky to be joined in the Hospital by Barrie's good friend (and Abby's awesome godmother) Jodie Low. Jodie may have gotten more than she bargained for but she helped with the delivery!! Barrie had a problem with the epidural, it made her numb all the way up to her shoulders! It appears the anesthetic went in the wrong place, and she had a small leak of spinal fluid. This gave her a terrible headache and they took her this morning to put a blood patch in her back over the area where the epidural went to stop the leak and her headache. Her back is killing her!! Guy's mom came from Ohio to watch Abby while we were in the hopital. She and Abby made cookies, painted pictures and read books.

SICK SICK SICK

Abby got the stomach virus two weeks ago and then gave it to me. It was so much fun to be 37 weeks pregnant on the bathroom floor. I never ask Guy to come home and help me, but I did this time. Well we were all better after a couple of days. Then my friend Heather and her little boy and new baby came over on Monday and they had the stomach virus the week before but thought they were fine. By the way Heather had her baby Friday night while she had the stomach virus and her husband is deployed in the middle east. PUTS THINGS INTO PERSPECTIVE!!!!! I really can't think of many things worse than being in labor while you have the stomach virus.Tuesday night Guy got the stomach virus, and then Abby threw up all afternoon on Wednesday. I have never felt so sorry for someone in all my life. The poor child could not even pick her head up to look at me. Then I got a sick Thursday morning. I thought she was getting better and then she woke up this morning with a cough cold and fever. She will barely drink anything and wont eat anything. I have poured clorox all over this house, and I have clorox wipes everywhere hoping to get rid of all the germs. I just hope everyone is feeling great by Wednesday!

38 weeks

I went to the doc last night and everything is great. I was a little more than 1 cm dilated but my cervix was more effaced. Jack was moving and looking right into the monitor at us. We decided that I am going to get induced next Wednesday morning. I am really excited, and really nervous! Last time I got induced it didn't go so well. I think She is going to give me cytotec and then pitocin. My doctor works at another hospital on Wednesday, so she wont be able to get there until later that afternoon. There is a chance I will deliver before she gets there which would be sad. Guy's Mom is going to come on Tuesday to help out with Abby. So, unless i go into labor before next Wenesday then that is the plan.

36 week ob appt

I went to the ob last night and everything looks great. I am 1 cm dilated and 50% effaced. I had told Guy before we got there if I wasn't dialted I was probably going to start crying. I know it is silly, but after my experience with not dilating with Abby I was a little nervous. I have another check at 38 weeks and if I am dilated more I am going to get induced at 39 weeks. I am hoping that walking two miles everyday will help get things started. I can't believe my sweet baby jack could be here in three weeks...or earlier. I feel like I have everything ready. Guy keeps telling me to chill out that all I need is a bed, diapers, and stuff to feed him. I am really scared about the sleep issue. I hope he is healthyand happy.... and it would also be nice if he slept a little more than Abby.

1st Day of school

Abby had her first day of school last Tuesday. She had a blast! When I picked her up she ran to the door to show me her name tag. On the way home I asked her what she did and she said fun. Later in the car ride she told me her teacher had told her no for climbing on the fence. She also told me she got mad at a little girl about a toy. At least she told me what happened. She made a lamb out of cotton and a white paper bag...had to do with mary had a little lamb. I was really sad to drop her off, but really enjoyed my three hours of quiet. She takes a nap around 1230, so she came right home and crashed until 230. I was so proud of her for being brave and not getting upset when I dropped her off.

The Outer Banks

Guy, Abby, and I went to the outer banks last Saturday for a week. We stayed on the 4x4 beach in Carova. We had to drive in the sand for about 30 minutes to get to our house. All I am going to say about that is it was interesting. Guy told me if i went into labor at 3 am i was on my own. We had the best weather lots of sun with very few clouds. Abby had a blast!!! She only complained when she was hungry or getting really tired. We went on walks, played in the sand, dug for shells, and ran in the ocean until we dropped. Abby told the sun goodnight each night and told it hello every morning. She loved to chase the seagulls...poor things. We left on Friday because ofthe tropical storm. We all had a great quiet vacation!!

If you can't tell by the pictures Abby had a blast at the beach. She would play in the morning for about 2 and 1/2 hours and the same in the afternoon. She loved everything and played until she dropped. She slept and ate really well while we were there. She was so much fun to watch and hang out with.

We have been going to the farmers market in our neighborhood after church on sunday. Abby gets to pick out some flowers to take home. If you can't tell she loves to be outside. we went to the ob on wednesday night. Jack looks great! He opened and closed his eyes and moved his eye around to see what was going on. I also got to see him practice a little breathing. He opened his hand to give us a little wave, or he was telling us he wanted out of the light. I am measuring a week to two weeks bigger. When I was pregnant with Abby I measured two weeks behind, so I am a little nervous about having a big baby. At about 9 each night he soes aerobics inside my belly so Guy really gets to feel him. Abby really only moved like that early in the morning and in the middle of the night. I am not sleeping well...so sad. Between the heartburn, going to the bathroom, and leg cramps I just can't get to sleep. At least I will be ready to stay up all night with Jack. we are all very excited and nervous for this sweet bundle of joy to grace us with his presence.

Potty training

Abby has been potty training for the last couple of weeks. Abby is a very strong independent child, so I was really nervous about all of this. she has actually done ok. She is only in a diaper for nap and at night. She is dry with about two mistakes a week. We got some dora panies and that has been a hit. I have been telling her not to pee on dora...I know that is horrible but it has worked. Guy got her a book about dora going on the potty and that seems to have done some good. I know there will be some regression when jack gets here, but so far so good. I am so proud of her! I am really sad because it means she is getting older, and I miss my baby.

We are so excited to announce we are having a boy! I am so excited to get to experience a little boy. Everything is great and he is growing well. I have been able to feel him move since about 16 weeks. Guy has been able to feel him a couple of times. I forgot how much I love that feeling. I put at ease each time I feel something. We are a little nervous to have a boy since we feel like we know what to do with a girl. I am really getting apprehensive to have two little ones in my house. I know it will be here before you know it. We have thought about names and we are pretty sure his name is going to be Jack, but are not for sure on the middle name. I go back to the doctor next week so I will update and put a picture up.

My husband is the best in the world!!! I can't tell him thanks enough for all his help! He is such a great husband and awesom daddy. I would not make it through my day without him. We had such a great weekend. Last night in the tub Abby said tankyou for bowing up the pool daddy, tankyou for kite, tankyou for quesadilla for dinner daddy, tankyou for the bubbles. She went on and on about everything she had done this weekend. She talked about everything her daddy had done for her while I was rocking her to sleep. This morning she heard his footsteps in the kitchen and said I love you daddy. What a special treat to start the day. I have such a great family!!!

The Reston Zoo

We went to the Reston Zoo which is about twenty minutes from our house on Saturday morning. We all had so much fun. You can feed the sheep and goats bottles of milk and food. The had plenty of babies that were too cute. They had turtles, pigs, bunnies, kangaroos, chickens, monkeys, buffalo, camels, and cows. It is a hands on zoo so there was plenty for us to do. We all had so much fun. We are really having a great time doing all these fun things n Saturday mornings!

Abby got to ride a pony at the end and had a blast. I was in a panic thinking she was going to fall off. She sat up straight and held on the entire time. She talked about it the entire way home.

We went to the zoo while we were in jackson and Abby thought it was awesome. I am pretty sure she could live at the zoo. So we went to jackson for a 12 days and had so much fun. Update on the baby

I went to the doctor on Monday for a check and everything looked great. I had another ultrasound and I saw two hands and legs. I was crazy to see how big the baby has gotten in a couple of weeks. The baby had a strong heartbeat at 143. I have a strong feeling it is a boy....I thought abby was a boy(she is a very big girly girl). I go back in a month to have the triple screen and another check on the baby. I am starting to wear maternity clothes which feel much better. I feel like I am really big around the belly. We are really excited!!

What Abby's doing

I am sorry I have not posted in a while!! Abby is very very busy.

1. Abby is talking in four to five word sentences. She talks all day about everything. I love having somebody to talk too.

2. She is really into sports. She loves to throw or hit a ball. She is not bad at throwing.

3. We are still taking art and music classes and she loves both. She will sit in her chair for 45 minutes for art without getting up once. She is a little wild in music, but the teacher says it is ok.

4. She is potty training and doing a great job!

5. She is very motherly. She rocks all her babies and puts them to sleep with kisses and a paci.

6. She is getting better with her colors, shapes, and abc's

7. She loves to give us kisses and tells us she loves us before bed.

8. She is finally sleeping through the night.

9. She is really turning into a big girl and I love watching he become more independent.

I'M PREGNANT

I am 7wk 6days. We are really excited!!!! I have been waiting to tell until I had an ultrasound. I went to the doctor and saw and heard the baby. There was a definite heart beat and we could see it beating. Abby was very confused. I have been having plenty of nausea...always fun. My nausea comes anytime of the day. I am not real sure why they call it morning sickness. I have also noticed i am having a hard time wearing some of my clothes. I think it is a little to soon but what can i do. I go back to the doctor at the end of march. I will keep updating.

I am so sick of the winter I could scream!!!! I just want to get out of my house and feel the warm sunshine. Abby and I have been walking in the 30 degree weather for longer than I like. I look at the weather in jackson each morning and it is like 70 degrees everyday! We are all very jealous.

My Mom is coming next week and i am so excited. Abby has music class one of the mornings my mom is here so that should be fun. I hope it warms up a little and we can go to the zoo. I always feel a little better when my mom is around.

Last night for about an hour there were police, police dogs, and a helicopter flying over our house. The lights were shining in our house and it was very loud. Abby thought it was very cool....I did not think it was so cool. I found out a lady had been assaulted down the street in my neighborhood!!! This was the third assault this weekend in pretty busy areas. They did not catch the guy. Needless to say I am very upset. This is like my worst fear in the world. I get scared in my house very easy. I now have to change the route I walk on and stay on the main street. I really don't like these kind of people!!

We had a party for Abby last night. She had a blast!!! We were having a small ice storm last night so it took everyone forever to get here. I am so lucky that we have such sweet friends to get out in the weather for abby's bday. She had the best time with everyone.

This morning she woke up and we got her a cupcake and she blew out the candle. She was in awe. Guy took the day off and they have had a blast all day. We went to art and then Abby got to go to mcdonalds and got a happy meal. SHe has had a great birthday.

Guys parents got abby a kitchen for her birthday. We opened it up early yesterday and she has been in it non stop. She loves loves to cook. This is such an awesome birthday present!!! She will get plenty of use out of it.

Things coming this spring

I have been looking forward to the spring with all the things we get to do and birthdays to celebrate! Abby's birthday is the 13th, valentines day, Guy's birthday is the 4th of march, easter, and my birthday is the 3rd of arpil. I love celebrating holidays and birthdays. There is something really cool about celebrating the day someone was born. I remember abby's birthday like it was yesterday. We are going to have a small party with pizza and cake on the 12th. I wanted to get her this elaborate cake but decided on a more simple cake.

Guy's parents are coming in two weeks and we are excited to see them. They got abby this kitchen for her birthday. I think she may pass out when she sees it! My Mom is coming on the 5th of march. I am so excited to see her! I don't know what i would do without my mom. I am hoping the weather is a little warmer so we can do some fun stuff outside.

Guy will be going to jackson soon for an interview. We are going to oxford at the end of april for double decker and for an interview. I have not been back to oxford in eight years. I can't believe it has been that long. My mom is coming with us so we will have some help. I am going to stay in jackson a couple of days after we get back from oxford so i can visit with my sweet friends.

We are trying to plan a trip to disney world in september. I would love anyones advice on things to do. I haven't been to disney world since 3rd grade. I really think abby will have a blast. there is a military hotel we can stay in for cheaper and military gets discounted passes. I think I may be more excited than anybody about this trip!

I really dont know why I haven't posted anything. Abby started Art, Music, and Swimming classes this past week. She has been to music twice and really likes the class and the teacher. She has started to come out of her shell in the class. When it is really cold we go to my gym in the afternoon for free play. She will hang from the bars for minutes at a time. SHe has zero fear of trying new things. She is always talking and laughing and we are always entertained.

Guy has some second interviews coming upin the next couple of months. He has some really hard decisions to make. Out of all of his options I would be happy with any path he chooses. I am really glad to be at this point. I will kepp everyone updated.

I promise to post more often.

So this is about a month late!!! We had about two inches of snow and Abby had a blast. We can't wait for it to snow again.

Christmas and more

We had a great christmas! My Mom and brother got here on Saturday and left Wednesday. We had our neighbors and our waitress from our favorite place to eat over for dinner on christmas eve. we had a low key christmas brunch. I had the best time having my family here. I miss them very much when they leave. Abby had the best time opening her gifts and playing with all her stuff. I think she was a little overwhelmed by everything.

On christmas day Abby got the stomach virus..then I got it wednesday..then guy got it friday. We were all under the weather until late sunday afternoon. I HATE THE STOMACH VIRUS!!!!!

Sunday morning Abby punched me on my bare eye and I got a corneal abrasion.. LOTS OF FUN. I felt like I had ten eyelashes in my eye and i couldn't get them out. I could not open my eye until late last night. I am putting antibiotics in my eye and taking pain medication. I hate pain medication! I didn't take anything after I had Abby....so let me tell you this really really hurts. The opthomologist said it should get alot better in next day or so. By the way Abby did not mean to hit me and was very upset. she kept saying moma ok, i sorry, give hug. It was very cute and made me feel so much better.

We went with our neighbors about an hour away to cut down a tree on saturday morning. It was like 30 degrees out and the wind was making it so so cold. Abby had so much fun. I really had to keep my eye on her or she would have been gone.

Jackson

We had a great trip to jackson. Guy was so so busy with all the interviews. We went to tupelo on Monday and got back tuesday. My mom got the stomach virus so we had to take abby with us. She was so good the entire time. I have a friend who just moved back to tupelo and she came and stayed with abby in the hotel monday night so we could go out to eat with the other doctors and their wives. We had to rush back tuesday and guy had drinks with a guy from baptist at shimmels. On wednesday he met all the guys from baptist. He also talked with the chairman of urology at umc. thursday he went to oxford to meet the urologist there. Needless to say he was very busy and got a ton of info about a job. He just found out this past wednesday that he was accepted by the airforce to do the sponsored fellowship if he so desires. I can't imagine having that kind os stress. I can't believe he doesn't have an ulcer. I think all of this is weighing very heavy on him. Anyway that is the story of the job front. Please keep guy in your prayers he has a lot on his plate.
